I’m not opposed to the tax levy to pay for the Cyclone Yasi Queensland disaster.
But opposition leader Tony Abbott‘s right: the government needs to hone in on the scores of trickling funding grants out there dating back to the Howard era. In this article, he’s only identified a handful of the BIG ones. Imagine how many small funding schemes there are, long-forgotten under red tape and piles of inbox paperwork.
We need to keep the stimulus to certain areas of the economy, but we’re not in economic crisis anymore. How many grants and tax offsets and funding deals can you think of that go well beyond the need?
